Oxide raises $445M to scale its enterprise cloud racks

Most hardware startups burn cash chasing customers; Oxide hit profitability and ran out of inventory.
Oxide Computer raised a $445M Series D led by Eclipse to expand production of its enterprise cloud computer racks. New investors Atreides Management and chipmaker AMD joined the round alongside existing backers. Oxide recently paid corporate income tax on hardware sales, but cash was tied up in components needed to fulfill a growing order backlog.
Why it matters: Hardware has a brutal cash delay. You pay for components and manufacturing long before a system reaches the customer. This capital allows Oxide to expand manufacturing capacity and accept new orders without taking on supply-chain risk.
Know this: AMD didn't just write a check. Oxide built its low-level platform software around AMD EPYC processors early on, making this a deeper technical partnership.
It turns out paying income tax is still the ultimate venture capital pitch.
