Microsoft-Decision-1 skips text generation for pure speed

Microsoft built an AI model that skips writing text — and it runs 35 times faster than GPT-6 Sol.

Microsoft introduced Microsoft-Decision-1, a model designed specifically for routing, classification, prioritization, and workflow control. Instead of generating paragraphs, it delivers structured outputs that software can act on immediately. The model is available today through Microsoft Foundry and OpenRouter.

Why it matters: Most teams waste compute using heavy text models for basic operational logic. Microsoft-Decision-1 ranked first for accuracy across 36 blind benchmarks while running 4.5 times faster than runner-up Quyet-1.0-Large.

Here's the gist: if your app only needs to classify a request or route a task, you don't need a talkative language model.

Expect more developers to swap chatty models for fast, silent decision engines.
