God of War for PSP now runs directly in your web browser

You can now play God of War directly in a web browser without an emulator.

A new open-source recompilation project translates PSP binary code directly into C++, compiles it to WebAssembly, and renders it using WebGL2. The initial showcase, God of War: Chains of Olympus, runs at 60 frames per second in Chrome and Firefox at up to four times the original PSP resolution. A second game, God of War: Ghost of Sparta, works using the same build scripts.

Why it matters: Ahead-of-time recompilation skips the heavy performance penalty of traditional emulators. By translating MIPS machine code straight into WebAssembly, old console games can run at high frame rates on standard laptops and mobile phones.

No game files are included in the repository. You bring a disc image of a game you own, and the open-source scripts compile it into a local web page.

Web browsers just inherited a fresh library of handheld classics.
