Nvidia is in talks to buy Hugging Face for $13 billion

Nvidia wants to own the central hub of open-source AI.
Nvidia has held acquisition talks with Hugging Face in recent weeks, Business Insider reported. The potential deal would value the platform at over $13 billion, though the companies have not reached an agreement and talks could still fall apart. Microsoft also held early meetings with Hugging Face, but those talks are no longer active.
Why it matters: Hugging Face hosts millions of AI models and datasets, making it the default workshop for developers. Owning it would give Nvidia a direct pipeline to those builders, but it also threatens Hugging Face's status as a neutral hub that supports competing hardware from AMD and Intel.
Know this: Hugging Face previously turned down a $500 million investment offer from Nvidia late last year, explicitly stating it did not want a single dominant investor swaying its decisions.
If this deal closes, Nvidia won't just sell the chips running AI—it will own the store where developers go to get it.
