Crusoe raises $3.9B to ship modular AI factories on trucks

Crusoe just raised $3.9 billion to put data centers on the back of semi-trucks.

Data center developer Crusoe closed a $3.9 billion Series F round at a $30.9 billion valuation, TechCrunch reports. Backers include Nvidia, Founders Fund, and Mubadala Capital. The money will expand giant facilities like its Texas site for OpenAI, along with modular AI factories called Spark that ship by truck to plug directly into power sources.

Why it matters: Building standard data centers requires huge build crews and often triggers backlash from local neighborhoods. Crusoe manufactures its modular units in-house, skipping long construction delays and local opposition. That gives clients like Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle a faster path to extra compute power.

Know this: Founded in 2018 to mine crypto using flared natural gas, Crusoe later pivoted to AI infrastructure. Beyond renting GPUs and compute space, the company recently signed a reported $13 billion deal with Jane Street and is eyeing a potential IPO.
