SpaceX completes its $60B acquisition of Cursor

SpaceX officially finalized its acquisition of Cursor, locking in the popular AI code editor to double down on automated engineering.

Cursor announced on its blog that the deal is now closed, TechCrunch reported. The takeover follows an April agreement that gave SpaceX the option to buy the startup for $60 billion—an option both sides exercised two months later as SpaceX went public. The acquisition adds Cursor to SpaceX's expanding software footprint alongside xAI, which SpaceX purchased earlier this year.

Why it matters: SpaceX is rapidly turning into a major compute power player. Cursor explicitly cited hardware as the reason for the deal, noting it gets "access to the largest fleet of GPUs in the world." SpaceX already leases infrastructure to heavyweights like Anthropic and Google, though that data center expansion has drawn a lawsuit over gas turbine pollution.
