An iOS app called Photosynthesis surfaced on Hacker News after demonstrating a clever trick: it triggers two camera lenses at the same moment. It automatically matches alignment and color, blending the wide angle of your main camera with the sharp detail of the zoom lens. The app uses zero generative AI—just real pixels captured by your phone's hardware.

Why it matters: Taking a photo usually means choosing between a wide shot or a tight zoom. Fusing two simultaneous captures into one file gives you broad framing without sacrificing resolution when you crop in later. It even exports to layered Photoshop files and side-by-side 3D formats.

Any multi-lens iPhone from the iPhone 11 onward works with the app. On-screen brackets show where the second lens is pointed so you can line up the shot. It comes with a 14-day free trial; after that, capturing and editing stay free, but exports drop to three a month without a paid plan.
