Nvidia discloses a $21 billion stake in SpaceX

Nvidia just revealed a $21 billion stake in SpaceX, signaling a tight alignment between the world's dominant chipmaker and orbital networks.

Nvidia officially disclosed the massive investment as part of its ongoing spending spree. The company has poured over $100 billion into AI firms over the past two years, including Safe Superintelligence, CoreWeave, and Cursor—the code-editing startup SpaceX bought for $60 billion this week. Nvidia is also pulling together a $500 billion investor group to help customers finance chip buys.

Why it matters: SpaceX is hungry for power. Elon Musk told investors the company aims to scale its compute capacity from 2 gigawatts this year to nearly 10 gigawatts by the end of 2027. The stake ensures Nvidia stays locked in as the core hardware engine behind that expansion.

Know this: Early bets on SpaceX pay off big. Google put $900 million into the company in 2015 for a roughly 7 percent stake. By July, Google valued that same position at $94 billion.

When your compute ambitions hit 10 gigawatts, you don't just buy chips—you buy into the company putting them in space.
