Swap AI coding models from your menu bar with Magpie

Developer yetone released magpie, an open-source utility that pulls every AI agent on your computer into one interface. The project hit 1,251 stars on GitHub this week. It sits in your macOS, Windows, or Linux menu bar, letting you pick which model powers agents like Claude Code, Codex, or Gemini CLI without opening a text editor.

Why it matters: Different coding tasks call for different models, but hunting down config files gets annoying fast. Magpie runs a local gateway that handles translation between OpenAI and Anthropic API formats, letting you point any agent to any provider—like running Codex on DeepSeek or Claude Code on Kimi.

The desktop app stays under 15 MB by using system webviews through Wails, and it edits settings files atomically without stripping out comments or formatting. It also detects your active CLI subscriptions, letting other agents use those models locally without copying around API keys.
