Nvidia's Jensen Huang says AI doesn't need new safety laws

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang thinks governments should stay out of AI regulation and leave safety to the market.

Speaking at Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference on Tuesday, Huang argued that AI is just software and hardware built by humans, not an "alien mind." His view: "Safety is an engineering problem, not a legal one." He argued that existing laws and free-market forces are enough to stop companies from shipping dangerous products, according to TechCrunch.

Why it matters: As the CEO supplying the chips for the entire AI boom, Huang benefits when companies build without speed bumps. But trusting market forces alone is a hard sell — especially when software failures already break real-world systems (like 2024's CrowdStrike outage) and AI chatbots face lawsuits over real-world harm.
