Demis Hassabis steps down as DeepMind CEO as Jeff Dean exits Google

Google DeepMind is getting a massive leadership shakeup as Demis Hassabis steps aside as CEO and legendary engineer Jeff Dean leaves Google entirely.

Alphabet announced that Demis Hassabis is handing over day-to-day operations at Google DeepMind to become Chair of GDM and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, while continuing to lead Isomorphic Labs. Koray Kavukcuoglu, GDM’s Chief Technology Officer, steps up as SVP to run the unit and oversee Gemini model development. Meanwhile, after 27 years, Jeff Dean and Google Senior Fellow Sanjay Ghemawat are leaving to launch an independent public benefit corporation focused on machine learning discoveries, with Google acting as a founding investor and Cloud partner.
