Asus built a bolt-on motor that turns regular bicycles into e-bikes

Asus is getting into personal transit, and its first hardware lets you motorize the bicycle you already own.

The tech manufacturer announced the Oxiis E250G1, a friction-drive motor system that clamps directly onto a standard seat post. According to Asus, the 3.7 kg unit presses against your rear tire to deliver 250W rated power (500W peak) and speeds up to 32 km/h. It requires zero gear or brake modifications and works with city, road, gravel, mountain, and folding bikes.

Why it matters: Dedicated e-bikes are heavy and expensive. The Oxiis offers an add-on alternative with up to 50 km of range in Eco mode. Its 158.4 Wh removable battery charges in two hours using a 100W USB-C charger and fits under standard airline carry-on capacity limits.

Know this: The system fits seat posts from 25.4 to 34.9 mm and tires up to 60 mm wide. It carries an IPX4 waterproof rating, a wireless cadence sensor, a brake-detecting taillight, and three riding modes toggled via an app or physical button.

Your laptop and your morning commute may soon share the exact same charger.
