Apple Maps is officially rolling out ads in search results

Apple Maps is officially putting paid search ads on your iPhone screen.

According to a report by The Verge, sponsored listings are now rolling out to users across the US and Canada. Businesses can pay for top spots in search results and inside the "suggested places" section, flagged with a blue "ad" tag.

Why it matters: Apple spent years positioning its default iOS apps as clean alternatives to Google's ad-driven ecosystem. Now, Apple is continuing its quiet push into digital advertising by adopting the exact same sponsored map model Google has used for years.

Know this: Apple says the ads won't track you across the web. A pop-up in the updated app explains that ads match your approximate location and search terms, but your personal data stays on your device and is never linked to your Apple Account.

Your map search results aren't strictly organic anymore.
