Amazon hardware prices just jumped up to 60%

The era of dirt-cheap smart home devices is officially coming to an end.

Amazon quietly raised prices across its main device lineup, bumping Echos, Kindles, Fire TVs, and Eero routers by up to 60 percent, as reported by The Verge. The cheapest gear got hit the hardest: the entry-level Echo Dot jumped from $49.99 to $79.99, while the base Kindle went from $109.99 to $149.99. Amazon attributed the hikes to rising memory and storage component costs.

Why it matters: Heavily subsidized hardware used to be Amazon's favorite way to get its storefront into your home. Spiking supply chain costs mean big tech can no longer swallow the loss—Apple already pushed its HomePod Mini up to $129 this summer for the exact same reason.

Know this: Not everything got marked up. Ring cameras and the higher-end Echo Studio ($219.99) held steady, and Google's standard Home speaker remains at $99.99 for now.

Your next impulse-buy smart speaker is going to feel a lot less impulsive.
